couchdb 1.6.1 install problem

Postby vkoster » Sun Sep 20, 2015 11:57 am

Hi,
couchdb does not seem to install properly any more on my pi.
I installed archarm from scratch and used pacman to install the couch.
The process I followed worked well in the past.
To me it looks like it has something to do with erlang 18.
There is an error message saying a shared lib cannot be found.
I can give you all the details but may be this is a known problem and someone knows what to do outright.
thanks for any hint

erlang needed a rebuild because of the ncurses update. it might take a while before it is available. after you installed it the error should be resolved.

/usr/lib/erlang/erts-7.0/bin/beam: error while loading shared libraries: libncursesw.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

the problem also comes up when I do "sudo pacman -Suy":

( 1/25) upgrading ncurses [######################] 100%
( 2/25) upgrading readline [######################] 100%
/usr/bin/bash: error while loading shared libraries: libncursesw.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
error: command failed to execute correctly

only this time it's ...so.5 instead of ...so.6
As winlu pointed out, ncurses seems to trigger it.

Everything is fine again, but could anyone please enlighten a newbie?
What was going on here?
I would realy like to understand the process.

There was some update to ncurses, which is a core package.
This caused other packages to break, especially some community packages.
pacman -Syu gave errors and software like e.g. couchdb faild to run.
A short time later, everything was well again.

My questions are:
- how was this accomplished, how was this "inconsistend state" communicated and who had to take action?
- was this a normal, regular proceeding or should this not have happend in the first place?
- how long does it take on avarage to reach consistency again?

I'm truly intersted in gaining some insight into the inner workings of a rolling distribution.
