Unable to create bootable micro sd card

Postby Caberfeifh » Sun Oct 18, 2015 11:32 am

I require some hand-holding through the process of creating a bootable sd card.

I have read the guidance on the official page (http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi) and I am obviously doing something very wrong.

The best I get on booting is a multicoloured screen and no green light on the rpi after it flickers a couple of times. The rpi works with the os that came with it flawlessly.

I have followed the instructions meticulously and I get all the necessary files onto the sd card. Can anyone inform me of the common pitfalls. It seems so simple but I am relatively new to Linux and have obviously missed something obvious.

I have persevered and googled extensively.......

Many thanks in advance.

Pi 1 or 2? It matters.

It's a Pi 2 from the Amazon ad and it also has Pi 2 printed on the board.

Tar file for RP 2 now downloaded and put onto sd card - still no luck.

Am obviously doing something fundamentally wrong.

Any pointers would be much appreciated. This is doing my head in....

A bit more information:

the boot partition has 60 items, totalling 17.8 MB.
the root partition has 32,765 items, totalling 610.1 MB - this still contains the boot files as I copied rather than moved them.

The card is a Hama and on the list of acceptable sd cards.

@Caberfeifh,

If it is a PI 2, the correct instructions are here: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... berry-pi-2

Thanks guys. Once I actually realised that there was a pi 2 I found the site straight away and successfully got the os on the sd card.

The next challenge is to install and get the gui work. In my excitement I mucked up the initial install so will probably start again from scratch. I installed Arch on my laptop a few weeks ago so this should not be too much of a challenge.
