SBCs with SATA interfaces?

Postby nickb333 » Sat Oct 23, 2021 10:00 pm

I'm currently using a pcDuino3 board - Allwinner A20, armv7h, with a 500GB drive attached to a SATA interface. This allows me to run Arch and several other distros using systemd-nspawn containers.

I'd like to build a similar setup for aarch64 Archlinuxarm but I'm struggling to find a suitable board. Does the community have any recommendations? :?:

To my mind you could be describing a NAS!

E.g. my NSA325 has a simple armv5 computer inside, that has two SATA interfaces. These have my two huge HDD in to form my NAS.

Don't know how many NAS that arm arch made it way to - my NSA is one, but just a low end processor.

Probably a high end NAS these days may be armv8 based, but most NAS don't need that kind of grunt. armv8 is mainly for phones, tablets, and chromebooks .... (all of which are portable, and none have sata interfaces ....)

I'm using a EspressoBin with a 250 GB hard disk on sata (with a cpmpatible U-boot version it's also possible to boot directly from disk). I use it to run several npawn containers with isolated services

Any ARMv8 SBC with a PCI slot should do. The RPI CM4 would be a contender, but appears to be impossible to get at the moment. An available alternative would be the ROCKPro64.

Thanks.

The RPi compute module was my first choice but I've not managed to find any here in the UK. I will take a look at the other suggestions.

I have a firefly station p2 that uses a rk3568 cpu. It has a sata port as well as nvme m.2. Firefly also has other boards with similar configuration.
