Bluetooth Dongle

Plugging in devices such as LAN adapters, Wi-Fi cards, printers, etc. to Arch Linux ARM.

Bluetooth Dongle

Postby NolanT » Sat Jul 14, 2012 4:33 am

I am having trouble using a Generic USB Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio) with my PogoPlug Pro running ArchLinux ARM. I've installed the bluez package via pacman and started the bluetooth service.

After connecting the dongle, I tried to find the hci# so I could scan for BT devices
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@PogoPlug ~]# hcitool dev
Devices:
')
but no devices were listed, so I checked dmesg
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[ 3.680000] usb 1-1.4: new full speed USB device using oxnas-ehci and address 5
[ 8.790000] usb 1-1.4: khubd timed out on ep0in len=0/10
[ 13.790000] usb 1-1.4: khubd timed out on ep0in len=0/9
[ 13.790000] usb 1-1.4: unable to read config index 0 descriptor/start: -110
[ 13.790000] usb 1-1.4: chopping to 0 config(s)
[ 13.800000] usb 1-1.4: udev 5, busnum 1, minor = 4
[ 13.800000] usb 1-1.4: New USB device found, idVendor=0a12, idProduct=0001
[ 13.800000] usb 1-1.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
[ 13.810000] usb 1-1.4: uevent
[ 13.810000] usb 1-1.4: usb_probe_device
[ 13.810000] usb 1-1.4: no configuration chosen from 0 choices
[ 13.820000] drivers/usb/core/inode.c: creating file '005'
')
I figured "no configuration chosen from 0 choices" looks like a problem, I think it might be related to kernel modules? I've tried loading the btusb module prior to connecting the dongle, but this doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Sorry if this issue has already been addressed elsewhere. I have been searching the internet & this forum and I am not sure with how to proceed with troubleshooting this.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a list of dongles which other users have been able to use with ArchLinux ARM?

Thanks for your help!

Sorry to bump up an old post,

But in-case if anyone has this same problem, you have to first run "hciconfig hciX up" (X being the number of your device which usually starts at 0. You'll be better off trying hci0 first) before your bluetooth dongle will show up under "hcitool dev". Of course this would only work if your bluetooth dongle is recognized by your device. This can be checked by using "lsusb"

Thanks for bumping this up and the information. I tried the suggested command but I'm still having trouble using the USB dongle.
"hciconfig hciX up" 0 to 6, all resulted in
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Can't get device info: No such device')
I tried all the way up to 6 because "lsusb" shows the bluetooth on device 6. I am not sure if these are correlated to the hci#
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)')

Does anyone have a bluetooth dongle working with a pogoplug Pro? I also have a CSR dongle that is not working. It works with my ubuntu 12.04 laptop (provided that it is seated firmly in the socket). When I try it with the pogoplug, things get weird. It shows up in lsusb just fine. However, lsusb -v will hang, hard (can't kill it even with root using -9). If I do get output from lsusb -v it shows 0 configurations, which is wrong. Nothing shows up in hciconfig or hcitool. There are no unusual messages in dmesg.

The weirdest thing is that if I pull the dongle out of the socket, lsusb shows it still there. And there are no device disconnect messages in dmesg. I think something is hung up in the kernel.

Anyway, if someone has a bluetooth dongle working with the pogoplug pro, I'd really like to know what kind/brand it is, and if there were any extra steps needed to make it work.

Thanks,
