Support for STK1160 Video Capture device

Postby ikruze » Sun Sep 16, 2012 1:18 pm

Hello,

I have an Oliunixno board with kernel 2.6.35-6-ARCH+ and I need to use an Easycap device, it's plugged in and recognized as an usb device:

lsusb shows:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05e1:0408 Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd STK1160 Video Capture Device

And I can see it as /dev/usbdev1.4, but video4linux isn't capable of recognize it as an /dev/video0 device, so I can't use it. I've seen that this kernel version isn't supporting this device, it is supported in 3.4, so.. how can I do an upgrade of the kernel (compatible with olinuxino) or patch it in order to support this device.

I've installed the drivers from Ezequiel Garcia (https://github.com/ezequielgarcia/stk1160-standalone) but the compilation fails because the v4l version that my boards includes is older then the needed, and the upgrade of xawtv requieres a newer kernel.

Any help will be appreciated

Hi,

You have these options:

* Backport stk1160 for 2.6.35
* Port olinuxino for 3.4
* Use media-build

The last one I believe should the simplest one. This method allows to build LATEST drivers
with OLDER kernels.

Read here:

Hope this helps,

Ezequiel
