Trouble with RT3070 USB wireless adaptor.

Postby mota37 » Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:48 am

I'm trying to connect my plug box to the wireless network using a USB adpator with a Realtek RT3070. When I run iwlist scan, I get no results.

I installed the bin file according to this link:
http://www.Arch Linux ARM.com/index.php5?titl ... are:_Wi-Fi

Then I followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi ... and_rt2870

I disabled the modules:
rt2800pci rt61pci rt2x00pci rt2800usb rt2800lib rt2x00usb rt2x00lib

This caused the wireless adaptor to vanish completely.

According to this link the correct drivers should be installed and work properly:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rt2870

The output of uname -r is: 2.6.34.2-00162-g8346349-dirty

I tried these instructions but I'm still working out some dependency issues with compiling:

I was not able to get it to work. I ended up using an old router as an access point to connect the pogoplug to my network.

I have an adapter with the same chipset (http://www.rosewill.com/products/s_1280 ... Detail.htm) which only kind-of worked (but crashed after a couple of minutes when lucky) on 2.6.37 but now works seemingly perfectly in 2.6.38 even in master mode as an AP at 802.11n. I did not have to do any blacklisting, etc. My only complaint is that this is the only one I could get working correctly in AP mode of my two types of adapters and this one is only a 150mbps adapter. My other one is a realtek based adapter which does support 300mbps but is still poorly supported.

The module that you need to use is rt2800usb (confirmed in my lsmod) which is built into the kernel and apparently fixed in 2.6.38. That being said, it seemed to work OK in 2.6.37 as a wireless client for me though I did not do much testing of that since I have my plug wired on gigabit to my network.
