5GHz WiFi dongle compatible with Arch Linux ARM

Postby EmbeddedGuy » Tue Apr 21, 2015 2:22 pm

I am looking to buy a ASUS RT-AC68U with the purpose of using the 5GHz frequency.

But before doing this purchase i am not able to find any information on which 5GHz dongles are compatible in Arch Linux ARM (pacman drivers etc.).

Anyeone have any experience or knowledge of this?

Only questions you need:

1) Does it work in Linux? If so, what driver?
2) Are those drivers built into the kernel you are going to use?
3) Does the device supply enough power over USB to power the device?

I have spotted this one: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/TRENDnet_TEW-804UB

According to the Wiki page it is a RTL8811AU chip, which obviously is a existing driver?

I was not able to find it on the list, but i found this:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8812au-dkms/

For the AC1200 instead. I am willing to upgrade the WiFi adapter if the RTL8811 is an issue.

I got the Asus USB-AC56: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ASUS_USB-AC56

Obviously its using the Realtek RTL8812AU, which should work with this driver: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8812au-dkms/

But this is not ported for Arch Linux ARM?

I strongly suggest you try actually building that package.

Use the -A flag for makepkg.

I just got a AC1200 dongle and did the makePkg on this ... Worked fine.

Can't install though... I'm on Kirkwood and on the 3.19.3-1 kernel (because of the USB issues on 4.*.*) and don't have the headers installed. Anyone have the header package?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '

DKMS: add completed.

No usb issues anymore with 4.0.x. Just update the kernel. (That is if you are referring to pogoplug v4 and usb3 ports)

Thanks for the news moonman... Yup 4.0.2 is good on USB3.

So I get an error on the install. Here's a similar install log...http://forum.antergos.com/uploads/files/1428961803688-make.log

I will poke around in the package make file. Still, plenty of warnings on pointer types. I'm not very au fait with C, but I'm wondering if its a compile flag?
