[Cubox-i][Kodi]MP4 playback choppy

Postby slycat » Fri Feb 20, 2015 3:31 pm

Since running xbmc I had hoped the issue would be resolved when switching to Kodi. Alas, it has not.

It appears that every time I play a video with the mp4 codec the audio falls out of sync with the video, and the video plays at less than full speed. Other processes on the box run fine during the video, however, the rest of Kodi (namely, the menus) also slow and the framerate it to the floor.

All output is through HDMI, tested on two different tv sets. Kodi set to both 720p and 1080p -> no difference. All other video files (little trouble with flv) play perfectly.

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone find a solution?

Slycat,

I had/have a similar issue on my Odroid-C1

Makesure you have all the relevant codecs (i find if it has gst/gstreamer in its name - install it long with faac ,faad2, x264 etc ) installed and select the correct device in system>audio that almost all filetypes play in sync.

There is only one type I seem to still have issues with and that is "m4a" files (mp4a/ mp4 with aac ) and i still get about 1 second audio sync issue with them.

press o while playing a video - the file type will be shown.

Honestly I thought all those packages/codecs were installed as dependencies for Kodi. Since you've pointed them out I have installed them and almost all issues are gone.

I read somewhere that H264 does not support multithreading with hardware acceleration, so when Kodi has that setting on H264 files may be choppy as only one core is decoding. I tested this by switching to software acceleration and sure enough I see the load spread out. However, switching to software broke plenty more files so I switched it back.

Still can't get most MOV files to play without a hitch, regardless of acceleration setting
