Upgrading from Pi to Pi2, feasable?

Postby woulduno » Tue Apr 07, 2015 11:34 pm

Good day,

I have a Pi (armv6) that I use to run Crashplan to keep my NAS backed up, due to the data size, it would benefit greatly from the new Pi2. However, with all the customization I have done, I really don't want to have to try and start from scratch. So, I am wondering if there is an upgrade path? My thought is to build a new card with the Pi2's /boot from the tarball and use my / from my current Pi. I am then thinking I would update my original root file systems pacman.conf with the updated architecture and then perform an update.

Searches have not revealed what I am looking for, and perhaps I am using bad search terms, but I would be open to any links in regards to this process.

Thanks,
Scott

You can not safely do what you are asking (move from v6h to v7h) with just a simple change like that.

In theory, you could use the uSD from a Pi in a Pi2, but you get very little gain other than the core count.

I may consider doing it for the additional core count, this poor Pi sits basically at 100% 24/7! I'd like to think the additional core count should help a little.

Thanks,
