cubietruck boot problem

Postby Jockel » Thu Sep 10, 2015 3:50 pm

Hey gues,
I hope some one can help me.

I am trying to install archlinux on my cubie again, but it didn't work.

I am using this guide: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... cubietruck

But when I insert the sd cart the Kernal is starting und stops with 2 times tux on the screen.
After that nothing happens.

I check the dhcp log on my router, the cubie didn't request a IP.
Also I used HDMI and VGA with the same resault.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I am having the exact same issue, but the strange thign is, that these instructions worked a couple of days ago. I had followed the instructions with SATA/USB and everything worked just fine.
Then I wanted to repeat the installation and document all steps and now it fails in exactly the way you describe.

Would be really nice if anyone had a hint what this might be.

I managed to flash the following version to NAND via Phoenix Suite:
http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-c ... t-arch-v2/

But this is really old and I'd really prefer the system to be on the SSD drive...

I have now attached a serial cable and logged the boot process. It boots just fine, the system start, but then it hangs in a loop with systemd printing "Time has been changed".

I have found the following link discussing the problem:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/1143

Somewhere else I had found that resetting the RTC clock might also work, but that by setting the time again, the problem comes back.

I have a working Linux on NAND and will boot this tonight and check what the clock is set to. Then I will try to play around with clock settings and see if I can make it work again.

This may also explain why it did work a couple of days ago: Time was not set yet on my CubieTruck. After successfully running Arch it did set the time and now the time seems to be somehow wrong.

Ok, problem solved:
  • my RTC battery was touching the ethernet case, which definitely should not be the case. Maybe it was short circuited all the time? I bent it a little so that it touches nothing.
  • I disconnected everything and then short circuited the RTC battery for about ten seconds (put small screwdriver very carefully on both contacts just where RTC battery is soldered)

Now the RTC clock had a low date again and Arch booted again. I did set the clock to the real date and powered off and on again:
Works!

So finally I reinstalled everything from scratch and now it boots just fine, with correct time, network and everything.

Hope it helps anyone else!
