[RPi2] Slow and lagged video playback.

Postby kaleidoscope » Fri Nov 13, 2015 12:16 pm

Hi there,
since i'm a passionate Archlinux user, i fell in love with Alarm, since it's perfectly built.
Unfortunately I can't figure out how to solve this big issue:

when I playback a video on mplayer or youtube (through cli youtube-viewer), the video playback is slow, lagged and totally asynchronous from the audio playback which instead is fine.

Of course I installed xf86 fbturbo, but the issue is there.

I'm using Adata 64gb Micro Sdxc UHS-I, in compliance with SD 2.0 Class 10 speed.

Is there something I can do to solve that issue?

Thank you so much for you time.

You need to make use of a program that can use the GPU's video decoders.

Hi WarheadsSE, thank you for your kind answer.
So I undestand I can't use mplayer as player for videos.
Can you suggest me what kind of alternative player could I use to get rid of this annoying problem?
Do you think I could encounter trouble also with software which uses openGL like Quake?

I would suggest something that makes use of OpenMAX (omx) for media. This is could be omx-player, gstreamer-based applications with the gst-omx plugins, etc.

Quake has a special build to make use of GLES, and you will need to use that.
