Xorg wont change enviroments

I am a noob and am not sure how to change the environment that loads. when i run "xinit" it just launches a white small terminal

Obviously, that's not the case. You've missed something.

- Are you using startx ?
- Does ~/.xinitrc have anything at all in it?

~/.xinitrc = /home/username/xinitrc
right?
if it does than there is nothing in my /home/username folder
