[rpi 2] Kernel panic with new kernel 4.9.11-1

Postby dipogon » Tue Feb 21, 2017 10:00 am

Hi, after system update Raspberry Pi 2 with new kernel version to 4.9.11-1 reboot resulted a kernel panic:

PANIC: stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: 7f13b2a0

There are usb keyboard, usb wifi adapter and raspi camera connected. Last entries in the console output were "Linux video capture interface: v2.00" and "[ OK ] Listening on /dev/initctl Compatibility Named Pipe". It dropped to kdb, but usb keyboard was not working. Any ideas what is going on?

I managed to boot raspi again by copying /boot from ArchLinuxARM-rpi-2-latest.tar.gz, but as soon as I reinstalled new bootloader and linux-raspberrypi same kernel panic occured. Just guessing, but panic seems to come right after "Linux video capture interface: v2.00", so does raspi camera need something to config.txt for the new kernel? There was also a warning while installing a new kernel, that no modules were included (coming from mkinitcpio?).

Did you diff /boot/config.txt against /boot/config.txt.pacnew ?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did. First I tried /boot/config.txt with

start_x=1
gpu_mem=320
initramfs initramfs-linux.img followkernel

then with just

gpu_mem=64
initramfs initramfs-linux.img followkernel

Same result.

No ideas from me then, just thought you may have missed that.

Exact same issue here. Also Rpi2 with a camera. I will disconnect the camera to see if it helps.

It boots fine with the camera disconnected.

Same panic after upgrade in my rpi 3 without camera, same kernel stack address.

Would this be relevant, distracting warning about no modules added to the image?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '(1/9) Updating linux-raspberrypi initcpios

dirkvdb, what do you have in your /boot/config.txt?

This might be SD card related problem, my rpi2 and rpi3 share same Kingston 16GB SD card, new kernel don't like them?

My conig.txt is pretty basic

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'gpu_mem=512
initramfs initramfs-linux.img followkernel')
