Bridge not working with R8153 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Postby trustnt » Thu Sep 23, 2021 3:03 am

I have used the R8153 to bridge with the onboard ethernet port in Raspbian it does work, but in Alarm it doesn't. With normal DHCP from the router the adapter does work and have an ip address can able to connect to the network. While on bridged mode the connected device to the adapter cannot connect to the network; in theory it will because the eth0 and eth1 is bridged, and the eth0 is connected to the router.

How are you managing your networking? This has nothing to do with the distro and everything to do with your configuration. Arch ARM ships with systemd-networkd (see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/System ... _interface) but you are free to configure it with anything you want.

I'm using systemd-networkd and successfully bridged eth0 and Zerotier virtual interface, but I want to add the external adapter to the bridge. I have added it to the bridge but it has no internet; I also found out that I DHCP worked from the computer connected to the adapter.

Got it fixed by compiling the r8152 module from here https://github.com/wget/realtek-r8152-linux. Turns out that the module module builtin from the kernel the r8153_ecm is the culprit, and why it is not working in bridged mode.
