[rpi4] 5GHz wifi broken with latest linux-firmware

Postby acidicX » Thu May 19, 2022 7:12 pm

Hi,

since the kernel / firmware update I'm getting the following error and 5GHz wifi stopped working:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[ 8.899653] brcmfmac: brcmf_fw_alloc_request: using brcm/brcmfmac43455-sdio for chip BCM4345/6
[ 8.908816] brcmfmac mmc1:0001:1: Direct firmware load for brcm/brcmfmac43455-sdio.raspberrypi,4-model-b.bin failed with error -2
[ 8.926067] usbcore: registered new interface driver brcmfmac
[ 9.112449] brcmfmac: brcmf_fw_alloc_request: using brcm/brcmfmac43455-sdio for chip BCM4345/6
[ 9.114480] brcmfmac: brcmf_fw_alloc_request: using brcm/brcmfmac43455-sdio for chip BCM4345/6
[ 9.120295] brcmfmac: brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Firmware: BCM4345/6 wl0: Nov 1 2021 00:37:25 version 7.45.241 (1a2f2fa CY) FWID 01-703fd60
')

2.4 still works but it seems on very poor performance compared to before.

I've downgraded from linux-firmware 20220509.b19cbdc-1 to 20220411.705f19a-1 and it works again.

Can you build this, install it, reboot and report back: https://github.com/graysky2/PKGBUILDs/t ... aspberrypi

@graysky `makepkg -si` fails with:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'ln: failed to create symbolic link 'brcmfmac43436-sdio.bin': File exists')

EDIT: I think your problem is not related to the firmware package.

Firstly, I also get that error but under version 20220411 of the firmware package or under the latest version.
Secondly, my 5 GHz wifi on a RPi4B works with the latest firmware package.

Recommend you run wpa_supplicant without background mode to debug your connection.

@graysky all I can say is that it works with 20220411 and stops working when I upgrade. I did not downgrade anything else. I didn't change anything on the router either, all other devices stay online etc. The dmesg error might not be related, I don't really know. But it's for sure the new firmware packages that breaks things for me.

I'll see if I can find time to debug wpa_supplicant this week as you suggested.

Could be differences in our hardware revisions I suppose... I am not expert with all the hardware versions. I was able to get a connection on my 8 G version which is hardware rev 1.4 to a WPA/WPA3 mixed 5GHz station ok.

Recommend that you disable wpa_supplicant's service, and run it as root with the debug flag for some insight into what is going wrong. Feel free to post the output here and probably a good idea to also post your /etc/wpa_supplicant/foo.conf as well.
