Performance issues and lockups xf86-video-armsoc-rockchip

Postby Daviljoe193 » Mon Jun 06, 2016 11:17 pm

I've been sitting on this for a while before I wanted to post about it, but I've had severe performance and stability issues with xf86-video-armsoc-rockchip on my Asus C100p, and the only workaround seems to be not using it, which isn't a good solution. With xf86-video-fbturbo-git, I can at least get OK performance, but there's a lot of tearing, and I'm unable to get some of my apps to work, like MPV with OpenGLES, which I tried running it with --vo=opengl:--x11egl:es, but it fails with the error
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[vo/opengl] Could not initialize EGL.
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.
Video: no video

Exiting... (Errors when loading file)')
X11 output works, but it's unwatchably slow. I hate to ask this, but are these issues known, and are there any solutions? I can't find a solution, other than to just "Deal with it.". :(

EDIT: After trying out xf86-video-fbdev, I could at least get a hardware cursor (I think), but everything locked up again, without warning. Will try to reproduce with error, since I couldn't find anything in journalctl.
