Setup tutorial for PI 3 - Arch with all wistles and bells

Postby NalleBerg » Tue Sep 13, 2016 4:23 pm

I have written a tutorial for installing Arch on a PI 3, complete with XFCE, software manager and even a menu editor. It's all there!

Enjoy!

Link to the official instructions page.

DO NOT COPY PASTA. They may change in the future.

The official Arch page was OK for me, and I had to use some of the commands in my tutorial. They were tried and tested, so I saw no reason to change it.

I am trying to make the install a bit less steap for those who have a PI 3 with a NOOBS-install and a limited knowlege of how to get anything else up and running.

But you are right, linking to the Arch image make my tutorial prone to a rotten link...

Suggestions?

Our page contents will not be a "rotten link".

All content of "The command line operations:" that repeat the installation and setup of the image should be replaced with a simple link to our official instructions page.

OK, but I am using a GParted for partitoning - wouldn' that confuse the reader?

I am trying to make this as low threshold as possible.

If yo say that I have to, I will, but if it's all the same to you, I'd rather link the official page as a source? I am not trying to steal anoyones glory here - just making a tutorial.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('NalleBerg', 'O')K, but I am using a GParted for partitoning - wouldn' that confuse the reader?

Its not about "glory" it about supporting the instructions after the fact. Having been around here for about 5 years now, I can tell you that in 6 months something will change, and for some reason someone will find your page instead of the updated official page, and they will follow the outdated instructions, then Warheads, and who ever else isn't tired of seeing this happen over and over will have to figure out how to un-bork their system because they followed the outdated instructions in the tutorial.
That's why the official instructions should be followed.
