General questions about linux-armv7 package

Postby mhf » Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:25 am

Hi all,
i've seen the linux-armv7 package in the repos. What's the purpose of this package? A generic kernel which runs on every supported amrv7 device? Is it safe to install it on my Odroid-C1 and power it up?

Best regards

It's is mainline vanilla kernel, which means no patches or sources from any manufacturer.

Thanks for your reply and clarification! I'm running an headless odroid-c1 server. As far as i know there's some propietary code included in the current c1-kernel. Does the device itself work with the linux-armv7 kernel (except video for example)?

I would have to look for the AMLogic S805 SoC in the mainline kernel support. I don't know off the top of my head the status. Go look for the linux-amlogic group/mailing list.

There is a device tree for the odroid c1 in the mainline kernel, therefore I assume there is enough support in the mainline kernel to boot the odroid c1.
