After installing php-gd -> php segfaults

Hi,

for experimenting with drupal I needed to install the php-gd package. It turns out that after installing it, php crashes completely. So if I run php -v, I get:
Segmentation fault
Otherwise, php seems to work, but as php-gd is critical for drupal, this information doesn't help me much.
Is there a way to get more meaningful output in order to debug this issue?
