Occasional kernel panic on reboot

Postby graysky » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:09 pm

Occasionally (maybe 1 out of 10 times), when I reboot my RPi3, I get a kernel panic. It can be fixed by power cycling, but the root cause of the problem is what I would like to identify. Unfortunately, systemd does not write anything to the log/it's as if the boot up never happened. I am only able to capture what I see in a pic and unfortunately, it's not all of the kernel panic. I did find this thread in which some are thinking the micro SD might be to blame but in my case, the system functions totally fine when it does boot, and the panics are sporadic in nature.

Thanks for any insights.

Hardware: Raspberry Pi 3.
OS: Arch ARM running ARMv7h

I do not have a fix, but I've seen the same thing happening on my RPis as well.

Googling this, it does seem like others are experiencing it. Some suggest that the SD card (media) is to blame. To test that, I swapped out the micro SD card from a RPi3 I have that has never experienced the issue into the one I posted about. I can say that it did give another panic with the media from the "good" box. I can only conclude from this that the media is not to blame. I have yet to find a place to begin troubleshooting.

Hey guys
I'm experiencing the same issue. It seems that sd card access is slow (in my case data in my SD are much more)
I result in this issue from the last kernel update

For the moment I resolved it writing in /boot/config.txt
boot_delay_ms=2000

No problem on reboot for the moment.

Another problem if I type:
dmesg | grep sdhost-bcm2835
[ 3.902852] sdhost-bcm2835 3f202000.mmc: could not get clk, deferring probe
[ 3.902893] Error: Driver 'sdhost-bcm2835' is already registered, aborting...

Could you confirm this issue?
Does the workaround work also for you?
Regards
