5Ghz WiFi not visible in RPi 4

Postby TheDcoder » Wed Mar 01, 2023 7:46 pm

Hi,

I cannot see my 5Ghz WiFi network in my Raspberry Pi 4, I've tried it with both wpa_supplicant and iwd, and the journal doesn't seem to indicate anything particularly interesting... only this line caught my attention:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Mar 02 00:11:58 rpi kernel: brcmfmac: brcmf_cfg80211_set_power_mgmt: power save enabled')

I think this broke after the kernel was updated to 6.1 but I'm not 100% sure.

What's happening? Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

I have no trouble accessing 5GHz networks on my Pi 4 with NetworkManager.

Although I don't believe that the power_save setting is responsible for the behaviour you observe, you can disable it with `iw dev INTERFACE set power_save off`.

I disabled power_save but it didn't help like you mentioned, also I doubt NetworkManager would do me any good since both wpa_supplicant and iwd are giving me the same result.

What's wrong with my Raspberry Pi? :(

I use NetworkManager for its simplicity, but it also seems to be the tool that works best without tuning any hidden knobs. Give it a try, this will narrow down any potential problems. Two common sources of error to watch out for:

1. Enabling more than one network service.
2. The regulatory domain is incorrect.

Okay, I don't know what "fixed" the issue but it is one of the two things which happened:

1. I downgraded the kernel to `Linux rpi 5.15.56-2-rpi-ARCH #1 SMP Mon Jul 25 12:40:48 MDT 2022 armv7l GNU/Linux` (had to do it because 6.1 bugged out and become unbootable)
2. The 5Ghz channel jumped from >140 to ~52-58
