Anyone willing to test linux-armv7 6.9.6 updated kernel

Postby graysky » Sat Jun 08, 2024 1:38 pm

I took a stab at updating linux-armv7 to 6.9.3 but have no compatible hardware for testing. Anyone willing to try it and report back?

I'm willing, but will need help.
I have a AOpen eTile wt19m-ff currently running armv7l Linux 6.2.10-1-ARCH
Give me some instructions and I'll do it

Just point pacman to the file to allow the update. Don't try it if you do not know how to recover.

@graysky as we talked about on GitHub, this kernel package has been waiting for several weeks for someone to test it since you don't have the hardware to test it yourself.

So a question arises, is Arch Linux ARM considering stopping ARMv7 support in the near future?

I'm preparing my Wandboard to put it into production with Docker (containers for Home Assistant and Z-Wave JS UI) and I would like to know if, although I prefer Arch Linux ARM, it would be better to use Debian or Alpine Linux (the latter seems to reboot itself after a while, so probably not an option)

Hi,

Boots successfully on my ODROID HC1. Checked the /boot directory and noticed changed files in dtbs/ and, of course, zImage and initramfs. I had prepared a recovery plan but it wasn't needed. My only concern was that there's now a specific DTB for the HC1 where it used, I believe, one for the XU3 before. If detection of that had failed then it might not have booted.

This machine runs five systemd-nspawn containers for various services and is my home firewall/router/server (all internet traffic goes through it). It's been running 24/7 for four years now and I'll keep it going for as long as archlinuxARM supports ARMv7h.

[neil@locutus ~]$ uname -a
Linux locutus 6.9.6-3-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 27 07:33:29 MDT 2024 armv7l GNU/Linux

Thank you for your work on this.

ATB,

I have been running on my XU4

$ uname -a
Linux xu4 6.9.6-3-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 27 07:33:29 MDT 2024 armv7l GNU/Linux

for a few days now. Seemed to be working fine. Then a few minutes ago I tried to ssh into it and got

$ ssh xu4
kex_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer
Connection reset by 192.168.141.16 port 22

I rebooted it by logging in to the serial console and it was again fine. Don't know what happened there.

Thanks for supporting armv7.

Thanks for testing all. The official mirror are now on the 6.9 series of kernels.

@karog - the sshd thing is known, see:make_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/openssh/-/issues/5', '', ' class="postlink"')

I am ready to test it on Pcduino 3 with some of the assistance from you. My only problem is the post above with the Certifications/update. So before I can bring the system up to the current date/update I don't think that is possible.
Thank you for your efforts.

I am sorry to provide this feedback only now, but I was not able to have hands-on my setup until very recently (it has been running from remote since long time): unfortunately it seems that the kernel upgrade made my ODROID C1 headless server unbootable (red and blue solid light after power on).
Anyone else experiencing the same (I guess not...).
Unfortunately I do not even have the old kernel package available any more.

@graysky do you know what could have gone wrong?

Managed to downgrade kernel to 6.2.10-1, Odroid C1 boots again.
I currently do not have serial access to the board, therefore providing a log o troubleshooting the issue might not be straight forward.
