Alarm Kernel with 1000Hz Kernel Timings for Asterisk

Postby habusho » Tue Aug 19, 2014 6:55 pm

Hi,

I have a UDOO with a quad core ARM A7 processor. I've specifically purchased this to run Asterisk and FreePbx.
Asterisk is usually run on CentOS linux.
I've learned that Asterisk really needs 1000hz kernel timing to use some of its modules etc.
Is there a way of getting this done without having to completely compile a new kernel?

If "this" means changing the kernel timer's frequency without recompiling then the answer is afaik no. The frequency set at compile time can't be changed any more.

On a side note it seems that the frequency in effect is the one set by the config option multiplied by the number of cores. Your device has got four cores and linux-armv7 has 200Hz set. So if Asterisk isn't too picky about the frequency you might save yourself recompiling the kernel on a regular basis by running this version. You'd have to pay some attention as for U-Boot which is described in the installation instructions, though.
