btrfs root volume on beagle bone black?

Postby jernst » Wed Feb 25, 2015 10:32 pm

I'd like to use btrfs for / on the Beagle Bone Black. Can it be done?

The uEnv file currently uses a command 'ext4load', which presumably goes with a ext4 root volume, but there doesn't seem to be a btrfs equivalent in the source.

If I create a separate ext4 /boot partition, but have / on btrfs (as one used to have to do it on x86), might that work?

Yes, that will work, so long as the kernel module for btrfs is built-in, or you have an initrd. Why would it not work ;)
As for u-boot, look into the support of btrfs in that project.

I cannot find any support for btrfs in u-boot; grep'd the entire source code from http://git.denx.de/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p ... ;a=summary

On the other hand, there seem to be patches: http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/227257/ but perhaps they fell back out of the mainline?

I asked on their mailing list, but got no response.
