starting X / wandboard

Postby asplundj » Sat Nov 14, 2015 1:41 pm

I have arch linux arm installed on a wandboard. I've used it headless to run my squeezebox server. However, no I'm planning to run kodi on it and have hooked up a HDMI monitor to it. I have installed kodi but not now how to get X working. I have installed Xorg-xinit. When i run startx I get

/etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc: line 2: /usr/bin/X: No such file or directory
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

What could be wrong?

Hello,

Kodi does not require a Window Manager or a DE to work. You can have it working in a Standalone mode. You turn on the device and kodi startsup. For doing so, you do not require an X server installed.

Have a look to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kodi
and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kodi#Raspberry_Pi (packages for hardware acceleration)

You are suppose to install only the Xorg video driver for your specific hardware. In the case of the Raspberry pi 2 (the device I have), the video driver is istalled with xf86-video-fbdev package.
You need to find out what is the video driver that suits your wandboard and install it, then follow the Wiki to have the service configured at startup.
