[Solved] Throttling after under-voltage event

Postby pejobo » Sun Nov 20, 2016 4:16 pm

[Updated title after further investigation]

Since the latest updates I recognize a degradation in performance and power consumption on my Pi2.
I use it mainly for htc, pvr and some headless stuff.
It got worse in early november, my remote was unresponsive or not responding at all (there was no lirc update), playing music (hdmi out) is pausing from time to time, live tv streaming from pi to anouter device is unusable since then, tv recording (no hd content) often produces corrupted streams. It seems to get worse with increasing uptime. Restarting services alone (kodi, tvheadend, lirc, ..) doesn't fix the issues.
Also (around the time since the new 'low power icon' has been introduced) the power consumption seems to have increased. I see the new yellow flash icon far more often than the old rainbow square. I use to have this only when my usb hd spun up, after the degration I see it when also when the disk is already spinning or when the disk is sleeping.

Some settings: Clocking settings are "medium" (arm_freq=900, core_freq=333, sdram_freq=450, over_voltage=2), I use "dtoverlay=lirc-rpi" and have set "max_usb_current=1" for my 2.5A amp. Attached is a 2.5" usb disc, and an usb dvb tv receiver.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Any hints what to look for?

Is your power supply possibly aging and losing efficiency (thus dropping Amp output)?

Possible, I have to measure it.
Could this explain loss of performance? It also 'feels' more sluggish when no undervoltage warning is displayed..

Hm, I went back to modest modest setting without overvoltage (arm 800 , core 300, sdram 400), but get this values now (directly after reboot):
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
$ /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_clock arm
frequency(45)=600000000
$ /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_clock core
frequency(1)=300000000
$ /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_temp
temp=41.2'C
$ /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd get_throttled
throttled=0x50000
')
Don't understand yet the description for throttled in https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 50#p972790 .. :/

[EDIT]
Added "avoid_warnings=2" to config.txt and still get "throttled=0x10000" and arm frequency is still low after reboot :(

[EDIT 2]
I changed the power source, everything is back to normal now.
Seems like the old power source got worse due aging..
