No name resolution

Postby dk23 » Sun May 12, 2019 3:55 pm

New install on RPI of [ArchLinuxARM-2019.05-rpi-2-rootfs.tar.gz name resolution has a issue:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'eth0.network
[Match]
Name=eth0

[Network]
Address=192.168.0.103/24
Gateway=192.168.0.1
DNS=8.8.8.8

/etc/resolve.conf
nameserver 8.8.8.8

$ ping 8.8.8.8
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=1 ttl=122 time=60.2 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=122 time=52.7 ms

# ping archlinux.org
ping: archlinux.org: Name or service not known

')

as a test I did a new install of ArchLinuxARM-2019.04-rpi-2-rootfs.tar.gz name resolution worked until$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# pacman -Syu ') and a reboot.

Thanks
Fred

Seems to have popped up on several devices recently. Usually the problem is DNS SEC on the router you use, systemd seems to have DNS SEC enabled by default - so if your router can't handle it you get this problem.

@summers doesn't give you the solution which is to edit /etc/systemd/resolved.conf and change DNSSEC=no.

I had this problem on all my Arch boxes (with my home router) when the default was changed last year. Don't know why a few Arch ARMer's are only seeing this recently.

Yes - I don't see it on any of my boxes at home, that connect via my open-wrt rooter. So for me its hard to give solutions, as I can't test anything.

From other posts, I can see people have tried switching of DNSSEC in the resolved part of systemd; this seems to have mixed results.

What most people have done is just totally switch off resolved; and use one of the older dns look up mechanisms outside of systemd.

Yes i know this isn't much of a help, but at least you learn its a common problem - and so probably has people working on a solution. Alas I don't have time, too busy trying to arrange/typeset a bit of music when I get home from work.
