BTRFS enabled by default

Postby AndyPi » Thu Oct 15, 2015 11:23 am

Hi

The BTRFS file system is built-in in recent kernels. It does some raid6 algorithm testing. It takes about 20% of the boot time. Can it be a module instead, or select the correct algorithm depending on the hardware?

regards

It used to be a module, as I remember having to load it (so not idea for the root fs) - I'll check when I get home if its stil a module.

btrfs is not a module and hasn't been since I installed arch on the Pi2. And I'm really, really against removing it, because I use btrfs as my rootfs (as I also do on my desktop arch installation). Since the Pi2 doesn't have an initrd or similar which could load btrfs when needed, it must be compiled in.
Also, I think removing btrfs alone wouldn't help, since md also loads raid5/6.

Autodetection of RAID arrays on boot can be skipped adding "raid=noautodetect" option to /boot/cmdline.txt

Works for me

Thanks for all comments. I will try raid=noautodetect.

Oh yes - I checked on my NSA325, a kirkwood device, with that btrfs is loaded as a module. So sounds like its a module in some kernel releases and compiled in in others, which seems a bit strange ...

I tried the raid=noautodetect and it didnt help, still spending time finding algorithm.
