Anholt's VC4 driver already included?

Postby goingarm » Wed Feb 03, 2016 4:02 am

Hello,

I'd like to know if the new VC4 open source video driver which is said to be included in the Linux 4.4 Kernel is already included in the latest Arch Linux Raspberry Pi Packages and activated by default. If not, do you know when it will be included?

Thanks

We source the kernel from here

The driver progress can be follow from the documentation on upstreaming said driver (not here, it's easy to find on google).

You then need to account for Mesa && Xorg.

At least parts of it are there for sure (/boot/overlays/vc4-kms-v3d-overlay.dtb is brought by linux-raspberrypi 4.1.18-4).
The driver is certainly not activated though. At a minimum you'll need
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d
in your config.txt (and very likely more)

I'm working out how to get it turned on now.
Mesa *should* be good to go.

Let me know how you get on with VC4. Enabling the overlay loads the module but results to a black screen for me.
I have tried to supply a fixed resolution to the kernel line via cmdline.txt ( video= .. ) as suggested elsewhere to no avail.

I saw that the branch is now called rpi-4.4.y. Does that mean it is now using Kernel 4.4, and the VC4 Open Source driver is included and available as a KMS driver? Does it have to be activated?

VC4 runs well with parameters
cmdline.txt: cma=128M
config.txt: gpu_mem=256 avoid_warnings=2 dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d
and without xorg.conf
Configured monitor is HDMI TV 1920x1080

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('trigger', '[')color=#0000FF]VC4 runs well with parameters

Does this work on SDTV? Tried it on my SDTV and only got a black screen.
