ALARM on the Google Pixel C?

Postby Shiggitay » Wed Dec 16, 2015 1:55 pm

Hey all this is technically my first post, and it's not in the intro forum...(whoops lol) but I was just wondering if anyone has gotten the new Google Pixel C? It's an Nvidia Tegra X1 based tablet designed by Google and the CPU/GPU is no slouch. I don't have one but if ALARM is easy enough/possible to install to it I'd totally consider getting one.

Specs of the tablet to have at hand (you have to scroll down a bit):

https://pixel.google.com/pixel-c/

Specs of the Tegra X1 to have at hand:

Thanks,

I'd say this will take some time until somebody manages to bring any other Linux distribution on this device.
First question: Does this thing allow for Developer Mode to actually boot another system/kernel?

As far as I see, it uses Android. So getting a proper kernel to boot this thing with, and get at least some hardware support will be one of the first issues. This is usually much easier for ChromeOS devices since their kernel tends to deviate not too much from mainline.

Another thing is GPU hardware support and Xorg. Although NVidia provides Xorg drivers for the Tegra X1, they are designed for Kernel 3.10.67, and Xorg ABI 19. But Arch Linux ARM already upgraded xorg-server to 1.18 which brings ABI 20.
Thus, you'd need to install an older Xorg environment, or resort to nouveau drivers.

Just found this link with some background info on the apparent switch from ChromeOS to Android for the Pixel C
