Chromebook Plus: No wifi device after upgrading kernel

Postby darkgeek » Sun Jan 14, 2018 1:52 pm

Hi, all:

Just upgrade the kernel $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'linux-gru') from $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '4.4.104-1') to $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '4.4.110-1'), I can not see my wifi device (wlp1s0) any more.

Before this update:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'justin@alarm:~$ ip addr
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 ::1/128 scope host
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: wlp1s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP group default qlen 1000
link/ether 18:67:b0:12:2e:57 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 192.168.0.109/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global wlp1s0
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 fe80::1a67:b0ff:fe12:2e57/64 scope link
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
')

After updating kernel:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'justin@alarm:~$ ip addr
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 ::1/128 scope host
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
')

Only loopback is available.

And the following is the pacman log for this update:

When I downgrade the kernel back to 4.4.104-1, the missing wlp1s0 appears again.

So what should I do to fix it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Not much help, but i encountered the same issue. Except in my case it was 4.4.113 to 4.4.115

For me, it worked when I downgraded the kernel and continued to work after updating back to 4.4.115-1. I can only speculate that something hidden is going wrong with the kernel installs occasionally.

I think I see the problem. There is the query about flashing the new version. I bet I accidentally picked the default option (No) and then the WiFi module was out of sync with the kernel.

That seems to be what is happening in your posted log.
