NanoPi-T4 Can't update kernel

I have 5.17.1-1-aarch64-ARCH which has to be pinned so it doesn't update. When I update to any of 5.18 up to current 6.2 it replaces Image and initramfs as it should but it won't boot. uboot just says starting kernel and sits and looks at me (i.e. no messages on system console). If I downgrade kernel to 5.17 again it all works again.

What could be changing between these versions which I'm not accounting for.

I'm booting off the emmc disk and wondering if there's a uboot (dts) config which needs to be changed.

On the 5.17 system it prints to the ttys and and then loads USB stuff
On 6.2 just stops, no errors.

Resolved: Some idiot (i.e. me) didn't have console specified in boot args. It seems to matter.
