Boot Fail - Samsung Chromebook Plus kevin Rockchip RK3399

Computer: Samsung Chromebook Plus (kevin)
Architecture: ARMv8 Cortex-A72
Processor: Rockchip RK3399 2.0GHz

Using the installation guide on: https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv8/rockchip/samsung-chromebook-plus

I had an very nice Arch system on this computer that was up-to-date and working great. I did a system update about a week and a half ago or so (it might have lined up on new kernel release?) ... but now I cannot boot.

I can still go through the whole installation process and get a system running. But once I run "sudo pacman -Syu" regardless if I choose to install the new kernel or not it will just boot to a completely blank screen.

Once I reinstall I can login to terminal & access the internet so I can go fetch any needed data/info.

Thank you so much in advance for any help you might offer!

I'm having the same problem -- my existing system boots fine, most recent "pacman -Syu" upgrade was 2024-12-15. When I do a "pacman -Syu" today, the system powers on with a black screen and nothing else ever happens.

I have had this happen before (when the kernel package was larger than the boot partition would support), so my practice is to do a full backup of the micro-sd card before any upgrade. I'm restoring from that backup now so I can get back to a functional system.

If you find any way to get the system updated successfully, please post here! I'll do the same of course.

I believe this could be related:

I have been having troubles on my own booting from my pine64 rockpro64 using emmc. I couldn't track if this was fixed in more recent kernels, and I sadly don't have older versions in my pacman cache (and couldn't find any archive also).
