ODROID-C2 won't boot to Arch but it will to Ubuntu [SOLVED]

Postby graysky » Wed Jul 13, 2016 12:04 am

I followed the installation instructions verbatim to a 32G microSDHC UHS-1 card. When I insert the card into the ODROID and power up the board, I get a solid red and solid blue LED but nothing on the HDMI. The yellow LED on the network port is mostly off but occasionally, flashes. I did not receive any errors from sd_fusing.sh and if I look at the root filesystem from the tarball, it looks as expected.

I tried the latest ubuntu image to see if something is up with ArchLinuxARM-odroid-c2-latest.tar.gz and the ubuntu image boots as expected. Any suggestions for troubleshooting are appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem, just received my odroid-c2, I followed the procedure multiple times, re-downloaded the image a few times - it just stalls with red and blue light on, nothing else happens. According to the odroid-c2 manual - blue light solid means U-boot is working, it seems like kernel is not taking over. Ubuntu installs ok, but I do not want Ubuntu.

Any suggestions

Hi,

I had no problems with my Odroid-C2 installation at the end of April and have kept it up-to-date with pacman since.

Have you tried an older installation image? You might look here, for example, from the Arch Linux ARM Rollback Machine. That link is a repo from June 1, but you can go up and down the directory tree for earlier or later files. HTH :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cmsigler', 'H')ave you tried an older installation image?

Good idea; below is the md5sum, date, and result
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
cba23d040e3745d61fd516928cb1b7dc May-02 fail
35a60e1b4e849a27921228fb7d01eb07 Apr-01 fail
1ee66f2d15718d80493588187aebb4b3 Mar-08 fail
f4a1a70de6ad5e0f834db5292d2c67ee Feb-06 fail
')

Nothing worked :(

I also tried using a few different microSD cards but same result.

Re: ODROID-C2 won't boot to Arch but it will to Ubuntu [SOLV

Well, the problem must be in the relevant packages on my trusty Arch x86_64 workstation that I was using to make the image because if I boot the the Ubuntu 16.04 live environment and make the image there, it works as expected :evil:

On Arch:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'fdisk is 2.28
dd is 8.25
e2fsprogs is 1.43.1')

Dunno about Ubuntu nor do I know the source of the problem but that is the solution. I used the latest image (date is 01-July and md5sum is cd6e28eba824c46668a9bd6948050840).

WTF?

This seems to have an answer :) e2fsprogs changes some default options, apparently.

Ah! Would you consider changing the installation instructions informing users of this? I'd bet a good percentage of our user base are also Arch users (thus e2fsprog >=1.43).
