Access denied

Postby vellastefan » Wed Mar 01, 2017 8:37 pm

I have a pi3 which i installed the raspbian on it.
Now i am trying to install the arch linix arm.
First step it is to create a partition by starting
Fdisk /dev/sdX where sdx is the name of the sd card.

1. I cannot find the name of the sd card
2. I am trying to install ARM from the lX terminal, is this good?

Thanks
Stefan

To your first point, just run `lsblk -f`

1. Accessing device files in /dev requires root privileges. You should do this via sudo.
2. /dev/mmcblk0 is the sd card from which you've booted raspbian. Formatting it is while still running is probably not such a good idea.

If you want to install Arch Linux to the SD card you should use PC with linux and sd card from your raspberry pi connected to it or, if you want to use raspberry pi for this, connect another sd card via USB card reader. Only then this sd card will be seen in raspbian as /dev/sda file.
