Missing kernel header compiler-gcc7.h

Postby krovetz » Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:36 pm

When trying to compile a kernel module on my Acer Chromebook R13 it complains about a missing header.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'a72> uname -a
Linux a72 3.18.0-8-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat May 27 20:54:50 MDT 2017 aarch64 GNU/Linux
a72> make
KMOD ko/enable_arm_pmu.ko
In file included from include/linux/compiler.h:54:0,
from include/linux/linkage.h:4,
from include/linux/kernel.h:6,
from /home/krovetz/enable_arm_pmu/ko/enable_arm_pmu.c:4:
include/linux/compiler-gcc.h:107:1: fatal error: linux/compiler-gcc7.h: No such file or directory')

FYI: I symlinked compiler-gcc7.h to compiler-gcc6.h which allowed me to compile and install my module.

Simply put: the kernel sources for that model were not yet patched to support gcc7.
