Just want to confirm that it is working.
Thanks for the tip to use "linux-aarch64-raspberrypi-bin".

What is different between the official aarch64 kernel and the AUR kernel?

Official aarch64 kernel is upstream, AUR package is build from https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux, which is modified in order to support RPi hardware better.

I can also confirm that I got aarch64 working on my 3b+ by using the raspberry pi kernel obtained from the "linux-aarch64-raspberrypi-bin" aur package. I followed Raansu's instructions (in the aur package comments) to install it on a 3b+ from scratch without having an existing compatible 3b to initiate the installation (this was achieved by installing the 32bit rpi2 tar first, then installing the "linux-aarch64-raspberrypi-bin" package, then removing everything except /boot and /usr/lib/modules/*, then installing the rpi-3-latest.tar).

Everything seems to be working nicely so far.

Is there any word when the rpi-3-latest tar will bundle the aarch64 kernel compatible with the 3b+? Would be nice to not have to jump through all the hoops of having to install rpi-2 first then rpi-3.

I would also like to see this happen. I'm using the same AUR package mentioned earlier for now but it'd be nice to have more "official" support.

I talked with someone on IRC. The reason why there isn't any official support in Arch Linux ARM is because the upstream kernel doesn't have support yet. It's in "Linux-next" but it hasn't been merged into "Linux-stable". When "Linux-stable" merges in support that's when Arch Linux ARM will pick up support. In the meantime we need to wait.

According to the RaspberryPi guys, they are not officially supporting aarch64 for RPi and I am not sure when they plan to start supporting this. So, most likely if won't happen soon. However, AUR build works just fine, so there is no urgency here.

does somebody can say in one poste, clearly what is suggested to install arch on raspberry pi 3 B+ and is working please ?

English is not my native langage, sorry, and it is not easy to follow all answers in this topic and understand what are important messages..

If I understood, it is suggested to do that from arch-chroot, but I have to do that from an other arm no ?

If you not interested in aarch64 and prefer supported configuration, just follow the steps in the official guide, you can do this from any linux (and possible even under windows as well).
If you want aarch64, you will need to do some manual steps to get it working. Read the previous messages in this thread for details.
