[?] Installing Arch on a NAS Synology DS118 (via chroot)

Postby killkrt » Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:12 pm

Hi,

I would like to install Arch Linux, using chroot, on my Synology NAS DS118, I've tried to following this instruction.
That NAS sports an ARMv8 64bit chip, so if I got it right I should use a bootstrap image for that architecture in order to proceed with the installation, but I cannot find a bootstrap image for ARMv8!

I have already tried here, but there is no bootstrap image for my architecture.

Where I can find it or may generate it (in some way)?

Thank you.

arm machines are a tad more varied than x86, and what this has tended to mean is that Arm Arch goes for simpler ways of installing. What you would normally do on a NAS is:
    Pull the HDD
    Write arch to the HDD
Redirect the bootloader to boot arch
Now place to probably start is the last one, you need to know how your machine boots. Alas with armv8 it often has secure boot, which may will complicate things. Anyway try googling how you box boots, and then understand it totally, before making necessary changes.
