Rock64, three problems

Postby Klepto » Fri Dec 04, 2020 2:29 am

Hi all

I've been using alarm on a bunch or rock64s for a few years now, but recently I've noticed some issues. I suspect this is to do with the default kernel and/or uboot. All these things were working at some point in the past, I'm not exactly sure when they broke, sometime in the past year, more likely in the past few months. If anyone has any pointers for me then it would be appreciated.

Firstly, no HDMI out. I know the install page says it doesn't work, but it used to work regardless. This isn't a huge issue for me, I'm running them as headless servers, but it's nice to have them plugged into my kvm switch dor debugging.

Secondly, serial console login seems to have an incorrect config, I get garbage in minicom. I'm using 1500000 8N1, no flow control. Again this used to work but stopped quite recently. This is a problem because it's my preferred way of accessing the servers.

Lastly the instructions don't seem to work for changing the MAC address of the boards. This is a problem because I have four of them and two have the same MAC on the same network, which is breaking networking. I could use other methods to change the MAC, but uboot is the right way, it would be nice if to worked.

Apologies if it's just me being silly and I'm missing something. Any ideas?

- HDMI I didn't check for some time, but it was already working for me with the new u-boot. Did you plug it in before boot?
- UART is also pretty long ago I checked, but normally I also thought this baud rate seems to be correct.
- changing MAC address is not possible with mainline u-boot, at least not as before with the rockchip u-boot. It's designed to be set once and then not changeable. I think it should be possible to change it again if you know where the u-boot environment is saved and zero this out.
