Pi4B 8G Boot from Samsung T7 SSD - Any tips to get working?

Postby fsociety3765 » Wed Nov 02, 2022 10:48 am

Hi all,

I have a Pi4B 8G v1.5 that I am trying to boot from a Samsung T7 SSD over USB. It's not going as well as I had hoped.

Below is what's being written to the journal. After that the screen just goes black. I don't know why the date is wrong. But this is the last attempted boot as I cleared the journal beforehand.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your logs indicate no error, but clearly you are booting into a nonstandard setup (e.g., the cryptdevice parameter). This should not be a problem per se, but just to make sure, can you verify if booting the standard setup (installed on the SSD according to the official instructions) works?

Currently I am working on setting up a Pi CM4. Completely different story, but at one point I had it booting and at the end the screen went black like in your case. But the system was up and I could login via ssh.

So you might want to test this as your log indicates that networking gets setup properly.
