SDDM+plasma no start on linux-aarch64 kernel

Postby mattblack » Sun Jan 15, 2023 10:58 am

Hi everyone,

I am using the aarch64 base image to build an image for raspberry pi and I noticed that my actual config that is using plasma + sddm to autologin doesn't work. If I boot my image and I use the linux-aarch64 kernel sddm starts but plasma doesn't and there is no X active.
If I replace the aarch64 kernel with linux-rpi it does work. Anyone experienced the same? Any idea on what could cause this behaviour?
Attached to a monitor I just see the boot freezing on "Reached graphical target" and does not move further

The linux-rpi kernel tracks the RPi Foundation's fork of the kernel whereas linux-aarch64 tracks Linus' vanilla linux. If you want extras that enable features on your Pi like graphics stuff, use linux-rpi.

thanks! Got a couple of additional questions if you don't mind.

This image is something I am continuing since 1 year, I think I recall (although I am nost 100% sure as a couple of months passed) when I started the project I was using the linux-aarch64 kernel and my config was working, is that possible?

I tried xfce using startx and it seems it works ok with linux-aarch64, am I understanding correctly graphics stuff doesn't work at all on linux-aarch64?

It is possible, I am not familiar with the config options linux-aarch64 is using. It could be that additional are needed in order to get it working.
