RPI 400 not booting

Postby baslking » Fri Feb 19, 2021 5:37 pm

I have tried both Arm7 and the ArchLinuxARM-rpi-4 and the ArchLinuxARM-rpi-aarch64 Arm8 installs on an RPI 400 all in one.
The Arm7 install never shows anything on the screen, just repeatedly power cycles. The Aarch64 flashed the message
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Bus xhci_probe failed error -110 no working controllers')
on the screen in a loop. I managed to boot Aarch64 by replacing the kernel with the kitchen sink version from
https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware but of course all /lib/modules don't work among other things and its not a viable way forward.
Are others having success with RPI 400?
I have a PI-Zero running ArchLinux and its super stable.

I can confirm that the Graysky testing version http://repo-ck.com/aarch64-test/ works straight out of the box including vc4-kms-v3d on my RPI 400.

It's not using the u-boot bootloader, and the SD block device to mount /boot defaults to mmcblk0 (zero) unlike the AArch64 standard version.

Thanks for that :)

I just tested the latest ArchlinuxARM images for Raspberry Pi 4 on the Raspberry Pi 400.
The rpi one works perfectly, including HDMI output.
The aarch64 one goes into bootloop as described by @baslking, however a coredump appears before rebooting.
If you need further help in troubleshooting this, let me know!

The mainline kernel (AFAIK used for aarch64) never supported RPI 400, until now (merge into linux-next). So the first official kernel supporting RPI 400 will be Linux 5.14.
