disappearing network interface RPI4

Postby umbrellarunaround » Sat Feb 15, 2025 4:12 am

Hi all

When upgrading the linux-aarch64 package from the one in installation image to the latest version available, which is 6.13.1-1 at the time of writing, my ethernet network interface disappears and my raspberry pi drops off the network.

I do not get this problem if I install the linux-rpi package first, so I would recommend installing before doing any system wide updates, especially if you have any network issues on the raspberry pi 4 model b.

I guess this was related to the issues this user was having https://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=17147however simply reinstalling linux-aarch64 did not work for me.

Thanks

As a *side question*, may I ask what remote repository are your using to get linux-aarch64 6.13.1-1?

My mirrorlist file has the default ''http ://mirror.archlinuxarm.org/$arch/$repo'' repository and there are no updates since a few days. The kernel for example is still 6.13-2.

Sorry to divert from the subject of your post, just thinking it would be an overkill to start a new one for that.

Regards.

Network is fine booted into 6.13.1-1-aarch64-ARCH on my RPi4B. Any debug info to go on?

Hi Both

Thanks for replying. Sorry for the slow response.

I did a fresh install then ran pacman -Syu and this time everything works.

It is quite strange, as I had done a number of fresh installs before this, and ran a system update each time, I think with pacman -Syyu. These reliably caused a loss of the ethernet interface.

It is unsatisfying as I want to know what I was doing wrong, or what the cause of the issue was! :?

Although its all working, here's a diff of some system info from the latest, working installation.

Initial install on the left, and pacman -Syu updated system on the right.

I used this script to do the fresh install because I had done it so many times... :D
I was finding the boot partition of 200M is too small, as when updating the system pacman complains about running out of space.
