pacman is forcing kmod installation

Development on core packages and the distribution goes on in here.

pacman is forcing kmod installation

Postby dan64 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 8:26 pm

Here the dialog:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
root@Arch Linux ARM install ~ $ pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core is up to date
extra is up to date
aur is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
:: Replace module-init-tools with core/kmod? [Y/n] n
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: kmod and module-init-tools are in conflict. Remove module-init-tools? [y/N] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: kmod and module-init-tools are in conflict
')

I don't understand why pacman is forcing the installation of kmod: are few the packages that are really depending from kmod and pacman should ask to remove module-init-tools only when is really needed.

Any workaround ?

1) kmod is replacing module-init-tools, that's why.
2) new udev wants kmod
3) workaround:

The problem is kmod:

In the mean time, all those with v5 devices, I have bundled them from a v6 (oxnas) and placed them http://ppl.ug/E0HZaDPs5i8/dl/data

Extracting these files (INTO /lib/modules/3.1.10-1-ARCH/ !!) will grant you module dependencies for the kirkwood kernel. This will last until depmod -a is run and kmod's depmod output breaks it all again.

This is for working WITH kmod

Is your iconnect using our kernel?

:D EDIT:
correct...remove all files from /lib/modules/mod* and reinstall linux-3.1.10-2, linux-headers-3.1.10-2...and working...really ?
