EW-7811Un

Postby MrGreen » Fri Sep 06, 2013 4:04 pm

I have read numerous threads on my usb wifi dongle but nothing seems to allow me to use this device adhoc.

Getting

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'nl80211 not found.')

from iw dev list

If this device is no good for my needs can someone suggest one that does work?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Bus 001 Device 004: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS]
')

Sorry for not getting back sooner, my attempt to expand root filesystem failed so had to reinstall

Have you done this?
lsusb -v

dmesg | grep usbcore, you should see something like usbcore: registered new interface driver rtl8187 in the output

The device works fine only it does not support Ad-Hoc mode, have ordered a new nano usb wifi device that does support Ad-Hoc. Will update thread when it arrives.

Do you really need ad-hoc or AP mode? AP mode works in hostapd AFAIK, just need to change the driver from nl80211 to rtl871xdrv in hostapd config.

I need a way to connect to pi via my phone. Had assumed I needed AdHoc... maybe I am getting my wires crossed. Will look at hostapt

i See you have rt2800 driver loaded. That one uses the default hostapd driver.
