Build ALARM from scratch

Postby billy48 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 2:54 pm

Can anyone, please, explain me how did you manage to develop the ALARM distro?
I've already created a SD-card with this distro and it worked but I need to obtain it from scratch.
I know it sounds a little bit time-wasting but let's say I need to do it for educational purposes. I have obtained a lfs-distro for an intel-based arch but when i've tried to follow the same tutorial for my A20-olinuxino-micro it didn't work, probably because of GCC.
Thank you.

No, it wasn't because of gcc, unless you are not using an ARM toolchain.

I'm trying to build this distro directly on my A20. I have a Debian distro and the error of gcc came out when I was building the toolchain using the sources provided in the lfs book. Any guidance for some special versions of packages regarding my arch (for toolchain)?

Everything you need to know is in the PKGBUILDs. Also, even if 'educational', you are in for a world of hurt. Arch is not a distribution intended for building from scratch.

Ok. I'm sort of new in Linux and somehow, following the LFS tutorial from the mentioned-above source I've got a LFS distro, as I've said before, for an intel-based system. Is it possible, following the same tutorial, on an olinuxino A20, to get the same result? I'm talking about a simple comand-line distro for this hardware obtained by compiling packages. If no, are there any tutorials in this direction? Thanks a lot. I really could use some helping hand on this.

Building out entire distros other than Arch is entirely outside the realm of this forum.
