jp.mirror.archlinuxarm.org returning 404

Postby gcrtnst » Sat Mar 01, 2025 1:06 pm

I'm encountering an issue while trying to update my system. The mirror jp.mirror.archlinuxarm.org, which was provided by Hector Martin, seems to be returning a 404 error.

When I run sudo pacman -Syu, I get the following error message:

[alarm@alarmpi ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core.db failed to download
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from jp.mirror.archlinuxarm.org : The requested URL returned error: 404
error: failed to synchronize all databases (failed to retrieve some files)

I'm wondering if this is a temporary error or if the mirror has been intentionally shut down. I suspect this might be related to the recent situation on the LKML.

Regardless of the reason, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Hector Martin for providing this mirror for the Arch Linux ARM community. It has been a valuable resource.

It looks like not just that one, but most mirrors I get from the archlinuxarm.org/about/mirrors page list seem inoperational (tw, tw2, uk, de*...). Even using just the main mirror.archlinuxarm.org server fails too. Managed to get eu and fl.us working, but that's a small fraction of all the ones listed.

Feels like the entire mirror system is broken somehow?

Linux ARM community. It has been a valuable resource.

Based on the 404 error, the mirror jp.mirror.archlinuxarm.org is either temporarily unavailable or no longer supported. This can happen due to infrastructure changes, server upgrades, or other technical reasons.

What you can do:
Try another mirror
Try updating the mirror list by selecting working servers. Open the file /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and comment out the problematic mirror, replacing it with another one, for example:

sh
Copy
Edit
sudo nano /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
Then add alternative mirrors from the official list (if available).

Force update of package databases
After changing the mirror, try to run:

sh
Copy
Edit
sudo pacman -Syyu
This will update the package cache and try to download the databases from the new mirror.

Check the mirror status
If you want to make sure whether it is closed, try to go tomake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'http://jp.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/', '', ' class="postlink"') via a browser or run the command:

sh
Copy
Edit
curl -Imake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'http://jp.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/core/os/armv7h/core.db', '', ' class="postlink"')
If it returns 404, then the mirror is really unavailable.

There is no official information about the mirror being closed yet, perhaps these are temporary problems. But if it disappears for a long time, it is worth removing it from the list completely and using other sources.

I have also recently become interested in trading, namely I am studying the main news from this area on learn.binany.com. With the help of the platform I can trade for profit. This is useful, I recommend you read it.
