Open Source Firebase Alternative on RPi

Postby christyjacob4 » Fri May 21, 2021 4:35 pm

We're thrilled to announce that Appwrite 0.8, our latest release, brings 64-bit ARM support for the Raspberry Pi! This brings us one step closer to achieving our goal of becoming a complete open-source alternative to Firebase. Other features from this release include JWT auth, anonymous login, advanced image manipulations, and more.

We hope Appwrite on the RPi opens up new possibilities for homelab enthusiasts, and we're super excited to see what projects are built with it. Looking ahead, we're working on a Realtime database, GraphQL APIs, MongoDB support, and other pretty cool features. We only got this far thanks to the open-source community, and we hope you can help us make Appwrite even better!

Here's Appwrite running on a Raspberry Pi 4 2GB with Ubuntu 20.04:

We've been benchmarking on a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B at stock frequency of 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, and a 32GB Samsung EVO Select SD card and here are the results. We got an average of 291 requests/s for a duration of 1:30 minutes. The Pi took it all, totalling over 17k requests with zero failures!
