Suggestions for an ARM development platform

Postby klickverbot » Tue Jul 31, 2012 11:09 am

Sorry for being off-topic, but since many Arch users are probably developers, I thought I'd ask here:

I'm currently looking for a device to do ARM development on, specifically compiler and language runtime stuff. I want to use it as a headless build and test slave, connecting via SSH and ideally having a serial console fallback (I'd like to avoid the need for a monitor and keyboard altogether, if possible). I'm planning to initially run Arch on it, but want to have the option of running an Android userland for testing without too much hassels. Due to the fact that I need to run a compiler test suite on it, ~1GB of RAM and a reasonably fast CPU/storage would be nice to have. Either Ethernet or 802.11 WiFi is a must-have.

So far, I've been looking into the TrimSlice and PandaBoard ES. While the former looks like a nice package, it seems to have lost traction (the lead developer apparently left the manufacturer, …). The latter seems definitely like a viable choice if I mount it into an enclosure. Any other recommendations?

Trimslice is looking good, only posted today in dev zone
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he DTS U-Boot status.

We are able to run the latest mainline kernel on the TrimSlices.

U-Boot version is:
Tegra2 (TrimSlice) # version
U-Boot 2012.04.01-03150-gd85e80f-dirty (Jul 30 2012 - 15:57:10)
arm-none-linux-gnueabi-gcc (Sourcery G++ Lite 2009q3-67) 4.4.1
GNU ld (Sourcery G++ Lite 2009q3-67) 2.19.51.20090709

Kernel:
Linux tegra-ubuntu 3.5.0-00002-g91e402b-dirty #15 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 26 15:00:42 IDT 2012 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

Now we are trying to solve a TFTP timeout issue.
The beta drop is expected by the end of this week.

Cubox is a nice package too

Pandaboard (ES), Beagleboard, Beaglebone, ODROID-X will probably be a nice one, Boundary Devices Nitrogen6x...but YMMV

Thanks a lot for the quick responses. The ODROID-X looks very promising indeed, I think I'll go with it – yes, I'm aware that it's not officially supported by you guys yet, but where would the fun be otherwise? ;)
