Hard Drive Life

Postby Socaltom » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:20 pm

After reading another thread here, I decided to review the SMART data on my hard drives. I've got one with over 60,000 hours reported ( its an 80gig drive that was big when I bought it). Who can top me?
Tom

--Edit, BTW, this is on my PC, but it may end up on a ARM system if it keeps chugging along.

Had gotten this drive last year for a black friday sale. Didn't expect much but
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@AtomAnt builds]# smartctl -x /dev/sda | grep Power
9 Power_On_Hours -O--CK 093 093 000 - 6990')
Its been 7338 hours since the purchase date (wolfram, I didn't actually count) but I set it up a few weeks after that
So its been on over 95% of the time I've had it.

Side note: your pc has been powered on for over 6 1/2 years. Is that that first SMART drive to come out?? :lol:

I don't remember when I got it, but it would have been over 10 years ago. It's an UltraDMA IDE drive, so according to wikipedia
[urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_hard_disk_drives][/url] I probably got it between 1998 and 2003. I couldn't have gotten UltraDMA before 98, and I would have gotten SATA much after 2003. It's been in a couple of different PCs. Its currently used as a Temp drive for junk I should probably delete.
